Oslo Hotel Recommendation Needed

Hi All,

We (DH, 10 yr DS, & I) are taking the ferry to Oslo and will be spending one night. I found a cute, quant hotel, but I fear it is too far given our whirlwind plans for Oslo. Does anyone have any recommendations for a hotel that would be close to the port? I figure that way we can drop off bags, explore, and then check in later. Any advice would be welcomed.

Thanks!

The Thorn Astoria (Dronningens gate 21, 0154 Oslo) is close to the Oslo S and and the ferry terminal.

I ended up (for now at least) booking the Thon Panorama. I"m sorry to cancel the cute pension; however, I don't think we have 30 minutes for subway/train commutes. This hotel appears to be about a 10 minute walk away from the ferry terminal and relatively close to bus stations. Here goes nothing!!

We are booked at the Thon Panorama too . looked very good and certainly convenient to the center . After our stay in Oslo , we have an overnight boat to Copenhagen .

Are you taking the ferry? That's what we're doing. It's a whirlwind trip to Norway!

At our time in life , we are going at a slower pace . Given the amount of things to delve into in Oslo , we will be there for five days , before taking the DFDS boat to Copenhagen . Try to go out to Bygdoy to see the museums there . Of great interest to me is the museum that houses the " Fram " , and the " Gjoa " look here for some explanatory material . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fridtjof_Nansen and here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roald_Amundsen

We are currently staying at the Thon Rosenkrantz -After 3 weeks in the Baltics and 6 hotels, this is our favorite. Close to the National Gallery and easy walking dustance to City Hall. Great staff.

We stayed at the Oslo - Guldsmeden Hotel this spring. I recommend it highly. It is close to the port but not sure if it is walking distance with luggage and a 10 year old. It is situated about 3 or 4 blocks from the National Theater Train Station, so that is very convenient. Bus and tram stops were close and made travel by public transport easy.
I do want to encourage you to visit the Viking Ship museum which is a good walk or short bus ride from the Fram museum. I know that interests are personal, but it is a small museum and is worth a visit. One more thing, the Oslo card, was well worth the expense, It covered all museums and bus, subway, tram, and ferry rides.

Thanks all for the suggestions! I really appreciate it. We leave in TWO days!! I'm a bit nervous and, of course, excited.

BTW the Viking ship museum I think will factor into our stay. Good to know there's an Oslo card we can purchase. I think that will be a wise investment for us.

Thanks again everyone!
