Hello fellow travellers, Hubby and I are going to Oslo for 3 nights prior to taking the train to Bergen. Can anyone recommend a hotel close-ish to the Central Train Station that is also in keeping with the types of hotels one stays at while on a Rick Steves tour? We prefer Hotels that are not the big chain hotels, but also want a place where we can get breakfast included. Thanks all.
During the RS Scandinavia tour in August 2018, we stayed at:
Thon Hotel Cecil

I have stayed at the Oslo Thon Munch, which is near the National Gallery and about a mile walk from the Oslo Central Station. There are Thon hotels closer to the Central Station.
In the RS Scandinavia guidebook, it is stated that "Of all the Thon budget hotels, this one (Munch) is in the most upscale location."
Breakfast is included. In my opinion, while not elegant, it is certainly clean and ideally located. If I visit Oslo again (and I sincerely hope I do), I would book rooms at the Thon Munch.
I hope you enjoy your stay in Oslo. I love it, there.
We found a really great deal at The Grand Hotel, historic, great breakfast, helpful staff. It always pays to check.
I stayed at the Hotel Verdandi in September. It was very nice. It is a new hotel, but done well. The staff was very pleasant. They were very helpful with information. Breakfast was included. And the price was good. I would definitely stay there again if I were in Oslo.
We recently stayed at the Thon Hotel Panorama. Great location, about a 10 min walk from the train station and the best breakfast of our 10 night stay in Norway this past July.
