Oslo and Bergen in July

I am in the very early stages of planning an Oslo-Bergen trip for July.
Before locking myself in on flights, what are your thoughts on the beauty of Norway as compared to Switzerland and/or the Canadian Rockies.
I guess what I’m trying to ask is pls try and convince me to do this trip, if that makes sense? 😂

Thanks.

Its different, as you can imagine. But it is as beautiful al Switzerland (not as expensive as Switzerland) And for sure, it is not as crowded as Switzerland, not to mention the Rockies, which are overcrowded nowadays.
What are your plans? Only driving from Oslo to Bergen the direct route? And what after?
You'll need an IDP anyway.

The fjords of Norway, the Swiss Apls and the Canadian Rockies are all extraordinarily beautiful places. i don't know how to rank them, or feel any need to, at least when it comes to gorgeous scenery. I guess I would choose the Swiss Alps over the other two because of the efficiency of the Swiss trains and the ease of getting around without a car.

As for Oslo and Bergen -- I wasn't that crazy about Oslo, and the fjord it is on is not all that special, although there are nice museums there. Bergen is one of my very favorite towns. The train ride between Bergen and Oslo has some beautiful parts, but it is not as pretty as I expected. All that said, a trip to Oslo with a train to Bergen, then using that as a jumping off point to cruise through fjords is a fabulous trip. It is not an inexpensive country to visit, but worth the cost IMO.

If you're only traveling between Oslo and Bergen you are missing so much of Norway. If traveling by train between the 2 cities, follow the Nutshell route to Gudvangen, Flåm and Myrdal. You are surrounded by dramatic beauty on the ferry through the Naeroyfjord.

How long is your trip? Are you just wanting fabulous views or do you plan to hike or some other activity?

@jeanm

Yes, planning to do the NiN starting from Bergen and ending in Oslo.
Still debating whether to overnight in Flam or not, but prices of Flam accommodations are pretty steep!
Will only have a week in Norway. Will most likely do some hikes but nothing heavy.

I agree that Flåm is crazy expensive. We stayed at the Flåmsbrygga because pickings were slim when we booked 3 months in advance. But, our room did have a beautiful view from the balcony.

We overnighted in Flåm so we would have time for the minibus tour to Stegastein Viewpoint. That plus the Naeroyfjord cruise was one of our top days during our 2½ weeks in Norway in 2023.

Flåm Camping and Hostel has been recommended on this forum for clean, budget friendly rooms. They have rooms and cabins with private bath and are less than a 10 minute walk to most things in Flåm.
