We will spend one day driving from Bergen to near Sogndal in summer. We have a couple of choices for our stops in and around Flam.
A. We can take the Flam Railway RT to Myrdal (1:30-3:46), and maybe have a couple of hours in the viking village (4-6) and take the 6:30 car ferry from Gudvangen to Kaupanger and drive to Sogndal.
B. We can take the Flam Railway RT to Myrdal (1:30-3:46), Drive to Stegastein Lookout and take the 6:30 car ferry from Gudvangen to Kaupanger and drive to Sogndal to get a nice break from driving (and it takes about the same time).
C. We can do A or B, skip the ferry and drive from Flam to Sogndal.
D. Or do we skip the train and do something else?
We may be taking the Hellesylt ferry toward Geiranger the next day but might take a scenic route so it might be our only ferry option. And the ferry is a nice break from driving, plus some great views. The Flam Railway would be our only train in Norway.
