Opinion sought regarding Voss vs Bergen

We have a very limited time in Norway but we want to do the Oslo to Bergen or Voss 1 day trip to see the western fijords. My question is this: since we only have a day does it make sense to do the Oslo/Voss journey which is shorter or is Bergen worth the extra journey. Are we missing something crucial by not going to Bergen given our limited time?

It's been years since we did the Nutshell tour with an overnight stop in Voss before continuing the next morning to Bergen. We overnighted at the Hotel Fleischers, a historic property with one of the best Norwegian breakfast buffets in my memory. That said, there is a lot more to see, do and experience in Bergen. Too bad your time in Norway is limited.

Is this a daytrip or an overnight trip? I'm not sure how long it takes by train, but it takes about 9-10 hours to drive from Oslo to Bergen. I can't imagine it would be much quicker by train.

If you're a Notre Dame fan, then I guess Voss. If not, Bergen, although that's going to be a very long side trip for not much boots on the ground time.

We only have a day and will be leaving Oslo early in the morning. We're interested in seeing the fijords; the towns don't matter in this case so my question is can we see the fijords by traveling to Voss or do we need to travel to Bergen to see the fijords.

Voss has an inland lake in a valley surrounded by rolling hills. There are mountains a few miles away.

A fiord, by definition, is an inlet from the sea, usually with steep sides, waterfalls, etc.

Everwho led you to believe the two are similar, except for water, is sorely confused.

Is there a way to get to Geiranger on this excursion?

Are you aware that Oslo is located at the end of Oslo Fjord?

Sounds like you are thinking of the "Norway in a Nutshell" type of tour: Oslo, Mydal, Flam, Gudvangen, Voss. You could continue to Bergen, then return to Oslo on the overnight train or return to Oslo from Voss on a night train.

You need to check their return overnigt train schedule to see if it would match your departure flight schedule. Would you be able to get from Oslo S to OSL in time for a morning flight. A 6:30 or 7 AM flight would likely not work.
