One night in Oslo & CPH-Oslo Ferry

We (my husband, 10 yr old son & I) will be taking the Copenhagen - Oslo Ferry in July. We have one night in Oslo.We arrive Weds morning around 10 am and then need to be back to board the ship the next day around 3pm. So I'd like to spend a minimum amount of time getting to the hotel, etc. Can anyone recommend a good area to stay in? Or any good places to stay? As we'll have to be very judicious with our time I'd prefer something nearby -- as much as I'd like to explore beyond the city. Next time. :(

Thanks in advance!

The center city area near the Oslo S and Karl Johan is centrally located anf convenient to local transportation (T-bane, street cars, buses) and things to see/do. Depending on hotel selected, about a km or 2 from the DFDS terminal. The Thon hotel chain has both budget (for Norway) and more upscale properties:

Get a RS guide book for high light attractions and look at:

There is a TI in the Oslo S where you can buy an Oslo Card and or local transit passes/tickets. The Oslo cards are 24 hour days, not calendar days:
