Obtaining an EU digital COVID certificate

Please share if you know the process by which Americans with CDC proof of vaccination and booster can obtain an EU digital COVID certificate. Thanks in advance.

Good Morning!
To get this information is like looking for a needle in a haystack. My family and I are taking a trip to France and Portugal on February 24, 2022. Since we are landing in France first, we are planning to have our CDC Vaccine Cards approved at a French Pharmacy in the Airport for the French Sanitary Pass (https://www.parisaeroport.fr/en/passengers/flight-preparation/covid19-travel-safe/eu-digital-covid-certificate). I am still waiting for clarification if the French Pass Sanitaire can be converted into the EU Digital Covid Certificate.

As if now, the CDC Vaccine Card is NOT accepted as a valid document since it is not a centralized record system. Most cards have sloppy handwriting and are often illegible. However, the EU is taking steps towards making it easier to receive an EU Digital Certificate, but it has not been officially approved ( https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/ip_21_6185)

Most reports that I have heard is that many places in France & Portugal are taking the CDC card "Unofficially" and that can change at any moment or which person is checking documents and enforcing the requirements. It is to my understanding that many EU Member states do not have the resources to create a system like the French Sanitary Pass, so they just heavily rely on the EU- Covid Certificate.

If I hear back from the French authorities, I will update this thread. Also, I suggest looking into the process for each country you are planning to visit.

Good luck and safe travels!

The French pass is a European Covid certificate.

(In other words, once you have a French pass, yes, it is accepted across the EU countries, as well as other countries like Norway that accept the EU certificate.)

There were earlier posts here (I think in late 2021) about an online process for getting a Swiss COVID pass. I believe you apply to a specific canton rather than to a national organization. The procedure is obviously intended for folks going to Switzerland, but there's a fee (something over 30 Swiss francs, maybe?), so I wouldn't feel guilty about applying. It might be necessary to do something like make a cancellable hotel reservation you don't intend to use; I haven't looked into this in detail. I believe the Swiss pass would be accepted throughout Europe, but I'd urge you to do some Googling to verify that.

I don't recall reading about an online process for getting another country's pass. France obviously has a tourist-friendly procedure, but as far as I know you have to be physically in France to get the pass.

These days, yes (for a while, they had an online portal, but that went by the wayside sometime at the end of the summer or beginning of autumn).
