Almost 25,000 Norwegian workers began striking yesterday after talks last Sunday between two labor confederations and employers failed to produce an agreement. So far, travelers were likely to notice some ferries have stopped running and a handful of hotels in Oslo had no staff. If an agreement is not reached by this Friday, the strike will grow and likely begin to affect transportation including buses, trains and more ferry lines, along with hotels.
The general strike has the potential to sideline some 200,000 Norwegian employees over a universal pay hike of 5%, which was Norway’s inflation rate in 2022.
In Norway strikes tend to last longer than elsewhere because once Norwegian workers start striking they do not return to their jobs until an agreement is reached.
It appears the strike is (mostly) settled.
