We will be going to Norway starting September September 25. We want to start in Bergen and want to do western fjords, but also must see Mundal as my ancestors came from there. This is looking to be more complicated as it looks as though ferries don’t run this time of year. Looked at going on the Flam train to get to the region but not sure that is the best! Would appreciate any advice I can get!!!
Check with Hurtigruten as their ships serve all the villages along the coast. You can book a cabin for as short trip as you want. People get on and off all the time.
You mean Mundal near Fjærland? If yes a rental car round trip would be the easiest.
Ferries in Sognefjord are operating normal in September, only few summer ferries will have ended operations.
Hurtigruten does not help you at all in Sognefjord.
Hurtigruten operates year round, every day.
If your dates are flexible, check climate data & avoid the rainy-- low clouds & you can't see much of the scenery
Travel date planning based on climate tables is for Norway imo not a successful way because you cannot plan the weather in Norway until 24-48 hrs ahead - seriously and especially in that area.
