I am interested in traveling the Kystriksveien Road in Norway from Stiklestad to the Artic city of Bodo. Has anyone taken it and basically how was it? Is there a train that travels that same route? Also is there a train that travels between northern Norway and Northern Sweden? Thanks.
I haven't been north of Trondheim, but it appears there's rail service from Verdal to Bodo, but just one daytime train. I don't know how the rail route compares to the road route; you can find the list of stops on the website I've linked to.
The coastal ferries stop in both Trondheim and Bodo, so they would be another option, but the trip would take over 24 hours. (There are cabins on the ships.)
Yes, there is a daily train from Verdal to Bodø, a very scenic route. But don't use the link above for information, use www.sj.no for information on the trains and to buy tickets.
Also is there a train that travels between northern Norway and
Northern Sweden?
Yes, there are trains between Trondheim and Östersund, and if you plan to go further north, there are also trains between Narvik and Kiruna.
Thank you for this information well worth thinking about going.
I have caught the train from Oslo to Bodo direct but that way back in 1980
Fauske before Bodo is the station where the buses that go further north connect from
Good luck with the planning, but I must ask why you are heading to Stiklestad? It's is hardly the most popular place for tourists.
The reason I am considering this road trip is because I have read that Norway's coastal road from Stiklestad to the Arctic city of Bodo is one of the most beautiful scenic roads both by driving and by rail in the world.
