Norway Itinerary Help! (11-14 days)

Okay, my husband and I are slowly piecing together what we want to see in Norway this June/July and would love some tips. Specifically on transport between places as I’m feeling a little lost since the Rick Steves book is so limited on Norway.

We will have 14 days on the ground and so far this is what I’ve got:

Oslo for the first 2-3 days.
Norway in Nutshell to Bergen. Maybe extra night there.
Then we would like to see some combo of:
Ålesund
Geirangerfjord
Lofoten Islands
Tromsø
(Other fun towns between?)

Priorities for sightseeing: casual day hiking/biking, kayaking, wildlife tours, cute towns/cities

We would end in Tromsø and depending on how much time we need/want to spend in Norway we may fly out through Stockholm and spend a couple days there. It’s one of my favorite cities so would enjoy to go back but it’s not necessary if Norway fills our itinerary.

My biggest question is the best combo of transportation to get around this big beautiful country! Not opposed to driving parts as that is our typica mode of transportation on trips but recognize not possible for the whole trip.

We did 10 nts in Norway this past summer and with all those bodies of water, (ferries) I felt a little more intimidated with the planning, so I used Brekke travel and they put together a custom trip, which was fabulous.

My trip started Oslo- Bergen, also, late last June. You don't mention museums? If not, you might be ok with less time in Oslo, I needed 2 and 1/2 days for museums! Likewise for Bergen- 1 full day was plenty for me, and that included the RS- recommended English language historical tour ( more museums!). There is a wealth of information over on the Trip Advisor forum and reading archived logistical questions/ answers, mostly like yours, would be helpful. It certainly sounds like you would want at least one overnight along the NIN. I will also suggest Hurtigruten, since I had never heard of it before my own planning. You can take it port-to-port, too...

My tip: Take Hurtiguten ship from Bergen to Alesund. Either disembark in the morning or in the evening when ship is back in Alesund after driving into Geirangerfjord.

I would consider getting off in the morning, hike on Aksla mountain and taking a rental car from Alesund to Trondheim (check surcharge) via Geiranger & Trollstigen, e.g. including car ferry Hellesylt - Geiranger through the fjord along Seven Sisters Waterfall. Very scenic. At clear days do not miss Dalsnibba close to Geiranger. Spend a day at Trondheim.

Head on by Wideroe plane to Tromso or by Hurtigruten ship to Svolvaer, this time passing Seven Sisters Mountain Chain and famous Torghatten. Do car round trip there. Plan 2 days more if you like whale and bird watching. Again Hurtigruten from Svolvaer to Tromso through Trollfjord.

Most important: Get a good camera with optical zoom with you. Forget smartphone snaps in Norway.
