Norway increases restrictions on air-polluting cruise ships - impact on booked cruise possible

From today on cruise ships with high emissions of NOx and SOx are banned from entering Geirangerfjord and Nærøyfjord, also additional restrictions on other emissions (e.g. wastewater). This may have effect on already booked cruises, if the booked ship doesn't match with new regulations.

Also some additional restrictions on operating behaviours of cruise ships while being in / around these fjords. Further fjords will be checked for that restrictions.

The link article is in Norwegian. Not sure it affects our Serenade of the Seas 9 June cruise to Arctic Circle. We do port in Geirangerfjord.

@geovagriffith: Ask your cruise seller and provider in a week or so. The news is so new that the contact centers and travel agents likely do not have any information on this and the impact so far.

This is so good to hear. Last time we were at Geiranger two giant ships were anchored and absolutely belching black clouds of crap into the air that completely stunk the place up. I couldn't believe that Norway allowed that...glad they are doing something about it. Those huge ships really don't belong there IMHO.
