Norway in a Nutshell tour in 2 days instead of 1. Options?

Hello,

We are thinking of doing Norway in a Nutshell tour in 2 days instead of 1. What overnight stay would you recommend and how should we use our time?

I am thinking:

Day 1: Oslo to Myrdal and then to Flam via train. Reach Flam by 15:00. Take boat to stay Balestrand and stay there overnight
Day 2: Continue to Bergen via Gudvangen cruise

Any other suggestions? Is it worth staying overnight on NiN?

I did the traditional NIN from Bergen to Flam, stayed the night, then train to Myrdal and on to Oslo. I loved the stopover it was a nice break and we rented an apartment that looked out over the water (Flam Marina Apartments) and had a nice dinner Ægir BrewPub. It was nice to catch the first Flamsbana train in the morning before the cruise ship crowd arrived. Which reminds me you should definitely check the cruise docking schedule for your dates, if there is a ship in port overnight or docking early you would want to plan around that.

We did the NIN in one day a few years back. We are going again this summer and are doing it in just over a week. We are starting in Oslo, then staying in Stavanger for several nights, Bergenfield several nights, and then back to Oslo for a few nights.

I did NiN from Oslo to Bergen. I spent the night in Flam at the Fretheim Hotel. About a two minute walk from the train station and ferry port.

I had a wonderful room with great views of the fjords. They offered a buffet dinner that was amazing. I believe it's only available May-September.

As far as I know, there's only one scheduled boat each day from Flam to Balestrand--the express boat from Bergen. It leaves Flam at 1530. I'd be nervous planning to arrive in Flam "by 1500", though it should be perfectly fine under normal circumstances.
