Norway in a Nutshell question

These questions may have been asked many times, but I am confused! We plan to do Norway in a Nutshell while in Norway in August, booking it ourselves instead of through a tour company. We will probably go from Oslo to Flam first and stay overnight. Then we will proceed with the rest of the NIN ending up in Bergen for a couple of nights. My questions are:

  1. Can we use our Eurail pass for the train legs of the trip?

  2. Should we book the train legs of the trip in advance? If so, how do we do it?

  3. Can we/should we book the bus and ferry legs of the trip in advance? If so, how do we do it?

Thanks very much for any help!

You can book some of the legs of your journey in advance. www.nsb.no is the site for train tickets. Rick and others here have recommended getting the Oslo to Myrdal and Myrdal to Flam train tickets ahead of time. You can purchase them about 90 days out. You can even call, if you're having difficutly with their site. I'm not sure about the Eurorail pass.

I booked my ferry from Flam to Gudvangen on visitflam.com. Their website is very easy to follow.
