Norway in a Nutshell One Way Oslo to Bergen with Driving

Good Afternoon,

I am looking for assistance with developing the following plan:
- One way Oslo to Bergen
- We would like to rent a car and stay overnight in Solvorn
- We don't want to miss the beautiful railway journey especially from Myrdal to Flam
- We would like to do a fjord tour and a glacier hike
- We would prefer to end in Bergen

Can anyone help with the above wish list- for the life of me I cannot figure this one out. I greatly appreciate any help.

You can drive from Oslo to Solvorn. From there drive to Flam. Take the train round-trip to Myrdal and back. In Flam you can also catch a boat tour of Nærøyfjord. See https://www.visitflam.com/en/se-og-gjore1/pakker/fjord-cruise-naroyfjord-rundtur/. Then drive from Flam to Bergen. You'll probably need at least one and possibly two nights in Flam in addition to your night in Solvorn.

Note that driving to and from Solvorn includes a car ferry.

Glacier hikes are available in the vicinity of Solvorn, and also as day trips from Bergen. Check https://www.fjordnorway.com/things-to-do/hiking/glacier-hikes for some options.

Thank you so very much. I think we have decided to do Oslo-Myrdal-Flam by train, Fast Ferry to Balestrand with a stay in Balestrand- car rental there to drive around, and then do the exact trip in reverse to depart from Oslo. I am having difficulty finding the ability to book one way on the flam railway. Is this possible? Also it appears that the NSB website is not yet booking train travel for July 2018. Is this correct? It has been a while since I have done this on my own. I greatly appreciate anyone's help to find the correct websites or tricks required to book this one way trip.

NSB website allows advanced books about 3 months in advance. When you book the Oslo to Myrdal on the Bergen Line train you will also need to book a seat reservation.

BTW: The NSB website has information on paying from the US. You may need to use a Paypal or telephone Norway to use a North American credit card because of the Norwegian 3D security: https://www.nsb.no/en/our-tickets/3d-secure

We recommend paying with PayPal for our customers from the United
States, Canada and Australia. Credit cards from these countries often
lack a security protocoll used for safe payments in Europe.

Should you experience problems with any card purchases, please contact
your card issuer / bank. Alternatively, call the NSB Call Centre on
+47 61 05 19 10.

It sounds like you're doing a very similar itinerary to what I did. I stayed two nights at the Balestrand Hotel (http://www.balestrand.com/) and loved it, and I rented a car for a day and it was fabulous!

Do you not plan to go to Bergen at all then? Why not continue on to Bergen from Balestrand rather than returning to Oslo?
