Norway in a Nutshell Day Trip

We are in Oslo for 3 days and would like to do the NIN trip.

We're are trying to decide if it's best to do the "18 hour" version that ends with Voss-Oslo, or if it's worth the extra cost & time to do the "24 hour" trip that continues to Bergen, with an overnight train back to Oslo.

Also wondering if anyone has thoughts on how comfortable the "regular seats" are on the overnight train, or if we should pay extra for a sleeping compartment?

Hey Denise,

It definitely is worth heading all the way to Bergen; it gives you a great look at the fjords and is a very beautiful and 'typically Norwegian' city. If you wanted to spend some time overnight along the way, I'd recommend Flåm.

So you can go:
Day 1: Oslo - Myrdal - Flåm (Flåm Railway)
Day 2: Flåm - Gudvangen (amazing ferry) - Voss - Bergen and then overnight to Oslo (though it's much quicker - and sometimes cheaper - to fly back)
Or
Day three: Bergen - Oslo (flight or train)

Hope this helps!
