It is stated that with the Oslo Pass, a 30% discount is provided for the train sections of the Nutshell Tour. How do you access this discount? Does it mean you must separately purchase tickets for each of the train segments and will get a 30% discount by showing that you have purchased the Oslo Pass.
I don't see anything about rail discounts outside the Oslo area here: https://www.visitoslo.com/en/activities-and-attractions/oslo-pass/whats-included/free-public-transport/
Where did you see that the pass confers a discount on the NiN route?
On page 102 of the Sanpshot Norway book, Under Rail Pass Discounts: "... you also get a 30 percent discount on the Flamsbana train." So does the Oslo Pass "qualify" as a rail pass?
Keep in mind that the Flåmsbana railway is a small portion of the overall Nutshell itinerary. The majority of the rail travel is from Oslo to/from Myrdal and/or Myrdal to/from Bergen. We actually didn't take the Myrdal-to-Flåm segment, and the scenery was still spectacular on the main route.
I'm 95% sure there's no discount. I think you have an older copy of one of Steve's publications . I can't find anything about the Oslo Pass on page 102 of the Snapshot Norway officially published in November 2024, but not released until about February 2025. On p. 166, it says "If you have any rail pass that includes Norway, the Oslo-Bergen train is covered . . . ) but there are extra charges depending first or second class tickets etc. AND "you also get a 30 percent discount on the Flåmsbana train." On p. 18 it indicates what you can do with an Oslo pass, but it doesn't include discounts on trains outside of Oslo. On p. 19 it says of the Oslo Pass, "free run of entire system, including Bygdøy boats." It also says individual tickets work on "buses, trams, ... and Vy trains (within Oslo) . . . . "
I agree, the Oslo Pass does not have discounts for those rail portions.
Please remember that the Fjord Tours website "Norway in a Nutshell" booking is merely a group of separate tickets for each segment. You can do your own thing using the NIN routing as an outline if you want to. So if you book each segment by yourself, you CAN use available student or senior discounts that way.
