Norway and Netherlands in November

My husband and I are planning to go to Stavanger Norway November 11-13, 2022 for the Speedskating World Cup, then head to Heerenveen Netherlands for the next World Cup the following weekend. I was thinking we would fly Chicago to Amsterdam since it seem to be a lot less expensive. Does it make sense to take a flight to Stavanger? how would you split your time during the week in between the world cups? I was thinking about taking the ferry from Stavanger to Denmark to make our way to Heerenveen. Will it be too early for Christmas markets? How would you spend your time given the time of year? We are first time visitors to this part of Europe. We enjoy museums and doing the “cultural “ stuff. Thanks for your thoughts!

That sounds like a great option to make some stops along the way between Stavanger and Heerenveen. There are many options but the ferry to Denmark is not a bad idea. Northern Jutland is certainly worth a stop. You should also include one or two nights in Hamburg in my opinion.

Unfortunately it a bit too early for christmas markets.

A bit off topic but related to Stavanger's North Sea oil back story is the TV series "Lykkelad" (English: "State of Happiness"), a historic fiction about Stavanger becoming Norway's oil capital.

Set in the small coastal town of Stavanger, Northern Europe in the
summer of 1969. In a last-ditch attempt to strike oil, Phillips
