Norway

I have choice to whether to do a home exchange in Alesund or Oslo. It's for two weeks and I'm wondering if it would better to stay in Oslo and travel to the fjord's or stay in Alesund. The house is in Alesund is beautiful but maybe a little remote. I would like some advice.

We did a home exchange in a small town just about 20 minutes from Alesund a couple of summers ago! We were there for a month and did NOT run out of things to do. It seems remote when you look at it on a map but there are so many beautiful areas and places of historic interest in the region. We have no regrets! The fjords near Alesund are far more dramatic than the ones further south. The mountains and passes there are stunning and going out to some of the islands along the coast with their beautiful lighthouses and bird populations is quite an adventure. Let me know if you have questions and I'd be happy to share more about our experiences there.

Definitely Alesund! I went to Norway for three weeks and spent a few days in Oslo. It's a lovely city but I would not spend a ton of visiting time there again when the spectacular fjords are up north. Alesund is a great home base for exploring the fjords. The only reason I'd stay in Oslo is if you really prefer a city-centered vacation, but that seems crazy to me with the amazing natural landscapes the rest of Norway has to offer. Have a great time!
