Northwest Fjords + Lofoten - Does this route make sense for scenic drives and photography?

Hi everyone,

I have spent quite a bit of time researching a Norway trip for July/August 2027, and after reading many discussions here and elsewhere, I have narrowed the trip to the following.

We are a family of three (2 adults and our son, 11). We are not hikers. Our interests are scenic drives, landscape photography, accessible viewpoints, easy walks, and experiencing Norway's scenery from the ground rather than long hikes.

I have decided to focus on Northwest Fjords + Lofoten, and not include the Flåm/Aurland/Sognefjord area on this trip.

The places currently on my list are:

Northwest Fjords

  • Ålesund
  • Romsdalen / Trollveggen
  • Trollstigen (if open)
  • Valldal
  • Geiranger
  • Flydalsjuvet
  • Dalsnibba
  • Gamle Strynefjellsvegen
  • Loen / Loen Skylift
  • Hjørundfjord
  • Norangsdalen

Lofoten

  • Reine
  • Hamnøy
  • Sakrisøy
  • Å
  • Ramberg
  • Flakstad
  • Nusfjord
  • Possibly Henningsvær

Rather than asking "how many days should I spend?", I would really appreciate your thoughts on these questions:

  1. Looking at this list, are there any places that you think are overrated or redundant for someone who doesn't hike?

  2. Conversely, is there anything along this route that you consider a must-see that I have overlooked?

  3. Would you personally include Henningsvær, or would you spend that time elsewhere?

  4. Is there one scenic road, ferry, or boat trip that you consider essential for this itinerary?

  5. Last one, I can have time from first week of July till mid August. What would be your favorite time?

I would really appreciate any suggestions or critiques from those who have driven these areas.

Thank you!
