NIN / Sognefjord overnight stay

Hi,
Family of 4 (2 kids) traveling to Norway in late July for a few days (then on to Finland).
We're flying into Oslo so want to take one of the nutshell tours and end with a couple days in Bergen.
Both the NIN and the Sognefjord in a Nutshell look awesome, and we want to break it up into 2 days. We'll likely go with fjordtours for convenience.

Could someone share their thoughts on one tour vs. the other? Also, where would be a good overnight spot? I've read that Flam and Balestrand might be good.

Hi Marlowe,

If you just have 1 night, I'd stay in Aurland. If you have 3 nights, I'd stay in Balestrand. As it takes most of the day to get there, I wouldn't stay in Balestrand for just 1 night.

I broke up Norway in a Nutshell with a night in Flam. I'm glad I did. I stayed at the Fertheim. Nice hotel. Excellent buffet dinner. It's less than a five minute walk to both the train and the ferry.
