NIN round trip package

We plan to buy the one-day NIN round trip package from Oslo to Voss offered by fjordtours. Our trip is in early July which is peak travel time. With the package does it mean for all the train, boat, bus rides we will have reserved space so we won't miss any of the connections due to space selling out?

The NIN is all on public transportation. My understanding is that the tour company works with the transit folks to make sure there are sufficient spaces, but even then it can be quite crowded during peak times. I am planning to take the NIN route in May, from Bergen to Oslo with overnight in Flam. I did all the arrangements myself. Since it's not peak season, I'm not worried about not having reservations for the segments that you can't reserve ahead of time.

If you search the route times on the Fjord Tours website you can plot out your own trip following the times listed on their itineraries. I saved about $60 per person. Here are the links and info (you'd obviously do it in reverse order and skip the Bergen leg):

  • Bergen - Voss (train): cannot purchase ahead of time, just buy at train station. Route times on NSB site.
  • Voss - Gudvangen (bus): Skyss bus from Voss to Gudvangen kai. Purchase on bus. Route times on Skyss site.
  • Gudvangen - Flam (ferry): Purchase ferry tickets from Visit Flam (here).
  • Flam - Myrdal - Oslo (train): Purchase train tickets 90 days ahead from NSB to get savings fares. You can get the Flambana train tickets on NSB site - just put in Flam as your start/end location. The Visit Flam site sells Flambana train tickets as well but they are more expensive.

Good luck!
