Have heard that Geiranger is worth the trip. Is there public transportation or a tour group from Bergen?
From Bergen it is easier to reach second UNESCO world nature heritage fjord Naeroyfjord. Choose train to Flam.
To Geiranger with public transport you will need minimum 9-10 hours one-way.
Thank you! That is too much time for us this time, but it does look beautiful.
You can very easily fly from Bergen to Alesund and then rent a car. We have done this. It's about a 60-90 minute flight and about 2 hours to Hellesylt, where you can pull onto the car ferry and go up the fjord to Geiranger. ENTIRELY worth it. I've been to nearly every major fjord in Norway and this one, by far, is the most beautiful. It's also worth it to drive from Geiranger up over the Trollstigen Pass. The entire area around Alesund is simply spectacular.
Thanks. It is always rated so highly, and pictures look stunning. Just a matter of time. Appreciate you making us think about it again.
Geiranger fjord is amazing, perhaps the best in Norway. We did Norway on an Arctic Circle cruise and loved it.
