Midsummer in Bergen, Norway

I'm scheming on doing the Best of Scandinavia in 14 Days tour that ends in Bergen on Saturday, 23 June 2018. That is Midsummer weekend. I've searched here as well as online and found practically nothing specific on this celebration in Bergen.

Can anyone tell me anything about it? If there's something special for the solstice in Bergen, I'll stick around for it. If there's something special elsewhere within relatively easy striking distance, I'll go there and maybe take the tour starting at a different time. I'm keen on seeing a big bonfire if I can stay up late enough for it.

We were in Norway for the midsummer celebrations a couple of years ago. Most cities have big municipal bonfires of some sort (we were in Alesund that has a MASSIVE bonfire) but they are quite easy to find anywhere really. If you can hop on a plane and fly up to Alesund (it's a very short flight and relatively cheap!) I would highly suggest you go. Here's a link to a video about it...it's pretty nuts what they pull off!
People have bonfires all along the coastline - you'll see piles of wood and other burnable junk people want to get rid of all over the place for a week or two before. I swear people must plan remodeling jobs and cleaning out the garage to time it with midsummer! The small community we stayed in had a bonfire at the local soccer field with a potluck.
It's very easy to stay up late enough for midsummer celebrations...it's so light out that you really don't feel like sleeping even when it's time to sleep!

Thanks, Anita. I knew about the Ålesund celebration, but had no clue about all the other smaller bonfires. Maybe there's little info because it's so common. Planning to celebrate the solstice and get rid of trash at the same time sounds very practical to me.

I did and I bookmarked it. Thanks for the tip. I can hardly wait to be there for Midsummer.
