Looking for hotel recommendations with fjord views in Flam, Norway

Hello, we looking for hotel recommendations with fjord views in Flam. We have currently shortlisted Flåmsbrygga Hotell and Flam Marina Hotel, but not sure if we are missing out on some better ones. Your input will be highly appreciated.

Thanks!

Flam is tiny. Google Maps should give you all the options and you can expand to the point
that the whole town is on your monitor so you can see where everything is.

The town is also level, so if you want a view from your room, better request it and you'll be
on a higher floor.

Maybe you have thought already about the possibility that in this hotel you can wake up with a look directly at the wall of a cruise ship. Better check before booking if cruise ships are expected.

Personally I am not a fan of staying overnight in spots like Flam or Geiranger. It is simply overprized. Of course by train there are not much options; maybe Gudvangen with bus and ferry connection.

We stayed six miles away at Vangsgaarden Gjestgiveri in Aurland. Our cottage was at the end of the water on the fjord. The view was magnificent, and the town had everything we needed (bakery, restaurant, grocery store).

Flam was very crowded and the view was obstructed by a giant cruise ship when we visited.

I stayed at the Fretheim hotel on a high floor facing the front of the hotel. My view of the fjords from my room was excellent. I was higher than any other structure in Flam and had an excellent panoramic view. Plus, the buffet dinner they offer is amazing.

It's a two minute walk to both the ferry and the train station

Can I ask which of the Rick Steves tours you are taking that includes a visit to Flam? We are considering the 14-day Best of Scandinavia but it doesn’t appear to include Flam or the train ride that takes you there.

The Scandinavia tour doesn't include a train ride, but goes to Flam to board a fjord cruise.

@kathiwojo - we are not taking any Rick Steves tour. Planning a Oslo > Bergen > Flam > Oslo trip end of April next year (DIY). Thinking of taking the ferry from Flam to Bergen. Rest all trains rides.

DallasMom7,

Not sure how much money you're willing to spend, but if you're dead set on staying in Flåm, I would check out Fretheim Fjordhytter. These are the four cute, red fjordside cabins that are featured in many travel sites about Flåm. They're pricey, but the reviews (and views) are amazing. We're planning to stay there summer '24.

I agree with other posters about the Flåmsbrygga Hotel. It's a fine place to stay, but a cruise ship in port will ruin any views you'd have. The Flåm Marina Hotel is right on the water and won't have that issue if a ship is in port.

Happy travels!

GlobalSteve,

Thank you! That looks amazing!!! Unfortunately they are not open for reservation in April. We have booked Flåm Marina Hotel based on reviews and recommendations.

Happy travels to you too!

The ferry from Flam to Bergen doesn't go into the highly scenic Naeroyfjord. I wouldn't consider it a good substitute for the Naeroyfjord trip to Gudvangen. If heading to Bergen from Flam without a car, I'd stick to the classic path: Naeroyfjord ferry to Gudvangen, bus up to Voss, train to Bergen.
