Last minute trip itinerary

Hi and welcome to the forum.

It's hard to answer your question without knowing a little more about what you are looking to see and do and experience on this trip, and about your travel style. For me this is a little too many short stays for a short trip, and I would eliminate at least one stop, but maybe this is okay for you. Also, have you ever been to Norway before?

Also, do you already have your flights booked into Bergen and out of Oslo? What time do you arrive in Bergen on August 28? I assume you depart Oslo on September 6? What time? And what time is your flight out of Ålesund on September 4? Knowing all this would help determine whether you are allowing enough time to see the places you are going.

I just got back from Norway about two and a half weeks ago and loved it. I did not go to Loen or Geiranger, but we spent three nights in Bergen, and loved it. I think that three nights is a good amount of time to spend there.

We were also in Ålesund for two nights and really loved Ålesund. You might consider spending two nights in Ålesund and just doing a day trip to Geiranger. There are some scheduled day-long round-trip boat and combo tours that leaves from Ålesund and takes you to Geiranger back, and that might be a bit easier. That way you could spend two nights in Ålesund, which I highly recommend.

Flying out of Ålesund is easy. You do have to get from the town to the airport, which is on another island, but you can take the Flybussen airport bus, if it works with your schedule. It can be a little erratic leaving from the city to go to the airport, so you need to check the schedule. We wound up taking an Uber because the timing of the bus did not fit in with our schedule, and I think that was around €60. We also really enjoyed Oslo and spent two nights there. I could have easily stayed an extra night there, but we just didn't have it in our schedule. It is a really cool city with some phenomenal modern architecture. Again, you'll find more about it in my trip report. We did the opposite direction, as we started in Oslo and then drove across the country to Ålesund and then flew from Ålesund to Bergen.

Especially considering it is very last minute, I think you have a good plan. I would take a night away from Bergen and add it to the loop you are driving. IMO, Trollstigen is a do not miss. We stayed at Hole Hytteuleige high above the fjord.

Before you lock in nonrefundable rooms, check rental car prices. One way can be pretty steep.

What are your plans for Geiranger? While the views from above the Geirangerfjord are nice, the town itself doesn't offer a lot, IMO.

If in the area, I agree that the Trollstigen is worthwhile.

I agree that the area right next to the water isn't awesome (although I liked it a lot more than Flam). That's why we stayed above the town where the hiking and views were, and we couldn't even see the town below from the bench in front of our cabin. We were able to walk to Westeras restaurant and the hike to Storseterfossen was right there, too. Dalsnibba is just down the road and Flydalsjuvet is close-by, also. It's where we took our fjord tour.

We ventured down the hill into town in the early evening when the ships were leaving or gone.

While we are more rural people, Alesund has my heart because my grandmother spent her first 24 years there being coming to Minnesota.

While I found the village of Flåm charmless, its setting on the Aurlandfjord is beautiful. But, the nearby dramatic Naeroyfjord, surrounded by steep mountains, is much more spectacular than the larger Geirangerfjord when seen from the water.

We did a great cruise visiting 6 ports of Norway and their wonderful fjords.
Geiranger, Alesund and Flam were our favorites, but all were great, especially going to the North Cape, which you aren't visiting.
