Is it possible to get from Stockholm to Narvik Norway by train?

Hi All

I should have called Sweden rail earlier. I had plan to travel Stockholm to Lofoten islands Aug 10 by way of Narvik station. Unless I'm missing something, this isn't a route I can buy train tickets on. I'm not able to find anything online.

Thanks for any help

There normally is train service from Stockholm to Narvik. It’s likely a route that can only be done during the warm months. It’s a long slog of over 18 hours. It looks like bus service is presently being substituted for part or all of the route. You must use the Norwegian website (www.Vy.no) or the Swedish website (www.sj.se ) to buy tickets as they are not sold by most third party vendors
There are also flights from Stockholm to Evenes ( Airport Code: EVE) Evenes is about 35 miles from Narvik and there is bus service between the two.
SAS has two flights from Oslo to Evenes (EVE) with a brief stopover in Oslo on August 10 taking 4.5 hours for $219-$289. On August 9 the flights are $157. This is likely only a bit more than the train fare ( or maybe even less as sometimes is the case in Norway) and saves you 14 hours.

Yes. We caught the train from Narvik to Lulea in March. There was a replacement bus for the first section from Narvik to Bjorkliden because of a derailment, then we changed to a train at Bjorkliden. We went to Lulea but there were a lot of people changing trains in Boden onto the sleeper train headed to Stockholm.

We booked our tickets on vy.se.

We stayed overnight in Lulea (a really nice town) and then flew to Stockholm the next day.

Things haven't changed much since the last time you asked the question. Buy your tickets at www.vy.se or www.sj.se and avoid 3rd party booking sites. Earlier www.vy.no was mentioned, but don't use them. Although Vy has had problems with their booking system, so it might be easier to call them.

The night train to Narvik runs year round, although the last part across the border has been replaced by buses for a few months. But now the trains go all the way to Narvik again.

The airport is actually called Harstad/Narvik (the air force base there is called Evenes, and it is in Evenes Municipality) but Harstad/Narvik is the name of the airport.

Norwegian Air Shuttle also fly there from Oslo.

Norwegian are a discount airline, so may or may not appear when you run comparison sites such as Skyscanner.

I see tix for sale on vy.se. Leaves at 2200 arrives 1830. The sleeper options that I had previously seen don't seem to be available. Second class seats is all I'm seeing. Seems like air is a better option

Thanks for the help
