Internet / Phone in Norway (1 week)

Is it possible to purchase a SIM card with Data Plan for checking emails plus phonecalls for my unlocked phone? Is it worth it for one week trip to Norway before taking a cruise? Related question - any suggestions on the internet / phone access on cruiseship and onshore excursions of Baltic Capitals?

"Is it possible to purchase a SIM card with Data Plan for checking emails plus phonecalls for my unlocked phone?"

Sure. Here's a list of Norwegian cell providers - click the Current Offer link for details: http://www.prepaidgsm.net/en/norway.html I haven't looked myself, but Lebara often has good deals in other countries, so I'd look at them first.

That's a decision only you can make. Look at the prices for getting a SIM and using it, and see if you'll get your money's worth.

Your Norwegian SIM will roam in other cities, but since Norway is not EU, the prices for roaming are not capped. Check carefully what the rates will be before using! Using cell phones on cruise ships is always expensive, and their Internet packages almost always are too.

For more information about this, you can look at Prepaid GSM's Forums, here: http://www.prepaidgsm.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=22. Don't be afraid to ask for clarification, as posters there can get VERY technical.

I use LEBARA SIM cards in the UK , France , and other countries in which they operate with great success . The rates can't be beat and they are a no brainer to use . You can easily buy them in tobacconists , news kiosks ,and convenience stores . Here is a link to the Norwegian incarnation of the card . The card is dirt cheap , and you add a top up for calling credit . https://mycall.no/
