Hotel in Oslo in Mid August

Hi! My family of 5 (2 adults, 3 teenage boys 17, 13, and 13) will be in arriving in Oslo Friday afternoon and leaving early Sunday morning on the train to Bergen. I have two hotels that I'm looking at and trying to decide which one I should pick.

Karl Johan Hotel - Karl Johans gate 33
Clarion Hotel The Hub - Biskop Gunnerusgate 3

I can get 2 rooms that will accommodate all 5 of us and they both seem to include a nice breakfast (according to the reviews). One seems more like a boutique hotel and the other is a huge business like hotel. Do we want to be closer to the train station?

Any pros/cons? Has anyone stayed at either one and can give me their opinion?

How early is your train to Bergen? Are you arriving Friday by train or air or ?

I'm not familiar with those hotels, but you could easily walk to the station from the Clarion with luggage.

We stayed at the Thon Opera on the other side of the station in 2023. Very convenient with trams and buses just steps away for the sights we couldn't walk to. And they have a fantastic breakfast buffet that I think opens at 7am on weekends. We joined the member program for a bit of savings since we ended up side of staying at 4 Thon hotels during our trip.

My Norwegian hotel breakfasts were outstanding. Budget enough time in the morning to enjoy yours.

I assume both your hotel posdibilities are air-conditioned. You're unlikely to really need a/c in Oslo, but I'd want to have it available in August.
