We are seeing Geirangerfjord and doing the Norway in a Nutshell route. Would you also recommend Hjørundfjord? There appear to be day cruises from Alesund but am not seeing a lot of discussion online about Hjørundfjord.
I haven't seen the Hjorundfjord but have seen the other two, which are very beautiful. My general opinion in situations like this is that you risk hitting the point of diminishing returns when you have a lot of fairly similar experiences. In this case, you will have already been to what are probably the most dramatic fjords in Norway, so I fear the Hjorundfjird will be somewhat anticlimatic.
I enjoyed a day in Alesund just walking around, admiring the Art Nouveau architecture, for which it is famous.
There are overnight ferries northbound to Trondheim, which is an interesting city. I don't know the ferry timing southbound.
Another possibility is to add a day to your time in Bergen, if you're only planning one day there.
Hjørundfjord is nice but nothing special compared to Geirangerfjord and Aurlandfjord. Therefore I would look for other alternatives.
Depending on your interests you can explore Alesund more in detail or rent a car and explore Trollstigen and / or bird island Runde. If the weather is not too bad a boat trip with boat Aquila to the bird wall of the island is really enjoyable. The skipper is a former teacher and so you will learn something - willing or not.
I agree that it might not be worth it. Don't get me wrong, it's beautiful. But if you've seen two fjords you should probably ask yourself how much you will benefit from seeing a third.
Thank you all for the recommendations. This is really helpful. Based on the feedback, we are going to pass on Hjørundfjord.
