Does anyone have experience using the Hertz Self Service kiosks? We have cars booked in Bergen and Tromso both from a Hertz self service kiosk in the city centers. I have read mixed reviews on how "easy" the self service is. Any feedback is welcome.
I recently got back from Norway and rented a car from Hertz there. We were actually supposed to use the self-service in Oslo, when we picked up our car, but there wound up being someone there, so he just gave us the key and told us where to go, and we walked out into this vast array of cars. However, he'd given us good directions to get there, so we were able to find the car with no problem and just drove off.
We returned the car in Alesund at the airport, which was self-service, so we had to find where the Hertz parking was, parked the car there (if you're a Gold member, they have parking closer to the front that is labeled), and then, after parking and removing our luggage, we walked over to the Hertz Center and just dropped the keys in the place provided.
But in terms of the self-service kiosk in Bergen, I already returned our car by the time we got there, so I'm probably not much help. Have you thought about picking it up at the airport? It's usually a lot easier there. Where in the city center is it?
I’ve rented from Hertz several times in Norway, but have always collected the car at the desk. For the self-service kiosk, you’ll need to scan your driver’s license and, as a foreign visitor, your passport or national ID card. You’ll also need a credit card with a PIN.
From what I’ve heard, the document scanner doesn’t always work. There should still be a staffed desk available, but I would check its opening hours beforehand.
