Help with refining itinerary

We're visiting Norway in August and appreciate all the help so far with our itinerary. Here's what I've narrowed down to on our trip. I'd love to hear if you think it's reasonable & if other thoughts. Next of course, I'll be figuring out transportation boat, plane, car. Want a car for some parts, yet the drop off charges I hear are exorbitant.

Arrive around 8/12.

Oslo 3 nts
Stavanger 2 nts
Bergen 2 nts
Fly Bergen to Tromso, then Svalbard
Svalbard 8 nts
Return to Tromso 1 nt? Pick up car? Bus? Drive to Senja?
Senja?
Lodingen to stay with relatives for 2 nts, rent car to use on the Lofoten Islands somewhere along the way or in Tromso
Drive Lofoten Islands 2 nts visit farmsteads & see other relatives?
Drive to Alesund & stay 1-2 nts
Drive to Geiringerfjord & geiringer including above the city 2 nts at least
Drive back to Alesund and fly out to oslo & then home

Still in understanding mode.

Hint: The summer ferry between Senja and Andenes stops operations around first days of September.

And from Lofoten you want to drive to Alesund? Long but partly nice way. What about Trondheim?

Any reasons why you do not use ships (port-to-port)?

Good to know about the ferry from Senja. Guess I'll have to relook at that. Using Rome 2 Rio to identify a route. I'll figure transportation out when I identify the destination spots. Trondheim is a possibility to visit just not sure it is worth the visit. Geirenger is a destination that I would really like to visit. My husband actually scheduled 2 weeks in Svalbard, instead of 8 nts.

I've sent you a private message.

For the expensive and complex journey you plan I would use a specialist / journey planner because there is more to know than organizing the transports. Routes, timings and places in between play a huge role for best travel experience in this beautiful country.

Trondheim is the old capital of Norway - the dome is really amazing; and I am not a church fan.

I do not see the value of 6 days more on top of 8 in Svalbard but maybe he does. I guess it is polar bear chasing. Make yourself familiar with the possibilities there. You cannot leave the place without armed people experienced in handling contact with wild animals.

Of course as World Nature Heritage Geiranger fjord is recommended to visit.

Rome2Rio can cough up some seriously bad information. The thought of using it to plan a trip to rural Norway make me very nervous.

Good.

It would help others if you come back with a short report after your hopefully fascinating journey.

Sue--We stayed in Stavanger for 3 nights this past August and loved it. One thing we did that I don't see mentioned most places is Flor & Fjaere which is kind of hard to describe. Basically it is a nearby island and you take their boat over, get a tour of the garden (phenomenal!!!) and dinner in the jungle house (very good). That trip was my daughter and I, but looking around there were many men there that were not bored:) If you can fit this in one evening, I highly recommend it!

Thank you a bunch everyone. I'm open to hear other ideas too. Will be meeting some new norwegian relatives at my aunt's 100th birthday next weekend. I'll try to show them my itinerary too and see what they say. I'd also like to visit the grandfather's side of the family too.
