help me plan a quick trip!

Hi!

My husband, my daughter and I are spending three nights in Norway and would like to see the fjords. We will be there on September 23, 24, 25--Thurs, Fri and Sat. We are coming from Copenhagen, and we will get in late Thursday. We would like to fly out of Bergen. On vacations, we like to do a little bit of everything--hike, take in the scenery and a little culture.

I need advice: Basically we are thinking about how best to see the fjords/scenery in such a short time:
1. should we fly to Oslo and then take a train all the way from Oslo to Bergen (on the nutshell tour?)?
2 Should we take a train from Bergen only part of the way and then turn back -- far enough to allow us to take the Flan railway?
3. Do we have time to see more than one fjord?

I was thinking we could stay over at Bergen the first night, stay in a town along the fjord the second night and then, I'm not sure re the third night. It might be nice to explore Bergen for part of the day, so maybe we'd stay there on Sat night.

Thank you!

Susie

Day 1: Fly CPH to OSL
Night 1: Oslo
Day 2: https://www.ricksteves.com/europe/norway/oslo
Night 2: Oslo
Day 3: Nutshell Oslo to Bergen: https://www.visitnorway.com/plan-your-trip/getting-around/sponsors/fjord-tours/norway-in-a-nutshell/
Night 3: Bergen

Day 4: https://www.ricksteves.com/europe/norway/bergen
Depart Bergen

As you can see, you are a day/night short and even with the extra night you will only be doing a reconnaissance tour. The alternative to the above is only one night in Oslo and two nights in Bergen. Second alternative is use Oslo and Bergen only as gateways and add a night in the fjords (two day Nutshell tour).

We took a sleeping car in a night train from Oslo. It arrived in Bergen at 6:58 AM. We hoofed it from the train station to the docks to get the NORLED ferry (half price for seniors 67 or older) which departed at 8 AM. It took 5 and a half hours to get to Flam. We had lunch there and looked around a bit, then took the train up the canyon to the main track and got back to Oslo around 10 PM.

Spending more time would have been better, but we got to see a lot in a short period.
