The Hardangerfjord in a nutshell has two options: starting by train or starting by bus, We will be starting/ending in Bergen and wonder if anyone has a perspective of which may option may have a better experience? The bus stops at Granvin where the train does not. Does one way have better scenery potential? I'm weighing the options before I contact the tour operator. pros vs cons of either? I don't see any discussions on this topic here or on the web.
I’m curious why you are doing the Hardangerfjord instead of the Sognefjord if you are starting in Bergen. You could do the Flam railway then, which is supposed to be fantastic. I will be there in June and am doing that one.
We will also be there in June. We also plan to do the Sognefjord. Just starting to look at options and saw two for Hardangerfjord.
The Flåm railway trip does provide a really scenic time IMO. I used it to connect to the Bergen line in Myrdal when I traveled to Norway a few years ago. I would recommend taking in the railway museum which is immediately adjacent to the platform in Flåm if you have the time and inclination. Recounts what an incredible feat of engineering it was to build the railway.
