We would like to go from Balestrand to Gudvangen and see the Naeroyfjord and return to Balestrand in one day. Could someone tell me what the connections would be for this trip? We do not have a car. Are advanced reservations necessary?
On what date are you planning to travel?
We will travel on a Monday. Should we get advanced reservations? We will be there August 6 for three days. How will the weather be then do you think?
Thanks for your help.
There are many ways to do this. A good starting point is the travel planner for the county. This is for public transportation only.

Additional transportation offers:
Flåmekspressen, express boat between Balestrand and Flåm. Runs Monday-Friday during school holidays. In your case from Balestrand 8:30 to Flåm 10:30.
Ferry Gudvangen - Kaupanger (fjord2.no).
Ferry Flåm - Gudvangen one way or ferry/shuttle bus roundtrip combo.
Most time efficient roundtrip on Monday August 8:
Flåmekspressen from Balestrand 8:30 to Flåm 10:30; Shuttle bus/ferry combo with bus from Flåm 11:00 to Gudvangen 11:20 and ferry from Gudvangen 11:30 (old ferry) or 11:45 (new ferry) to Flåm 14:05 (old ferry) or 13:15 (new ferry); Norled express boat from Flåm 15:30 to Balestrand 16:55.
If you look at a map, you will find that this alternative gives a lot af backtracking.
The last departure from the Flåm area back to Balestrand is bus from Gudvangen E16 19:55 or Flåm 20:15.
There is only one small cruise ship in Flåm that day.
