Glacier day trip either from Bergen or Oslo

I posted a couple of days ago about a day trip to a glacier while on the Norway in a Nutshell trip. I had envisioned staying overnight in Flam, doing a glacier tour the next morning and riding the last train into Oslo. One person replied that this trip would not be possible. Since I was unable to find any tours from Flam, I believe him (thanks MarkK for your comment!).

We no are looking at the NIN tour in a single day and using the extra day in either Bergen or Oslo to do a day trip to a glacier,
I would appreciate input from the collective wisdom of the travel forum members as to the possibility of that idea and suggestions anyone would have.
Thanks
Neil

If you’re planning to take the train from Oslo to Bergen, the highest altitude reached on the train route is the stop at Finse, which is 4,000 feet above sea level. The Hardangerjokulen ( glacier) is located one-half mile— about a 10-minute hike— from where the train stops at Finse. The Finse stop is located about 30 minutes east of Myrdal or 2:20 east of Bergen. Myrdal is the starting point for the Norway-in-a-Nutshell tour.
There is no town at Finse. The train stop, a hotel called the “Hotel Finse 1222” ( which is often booked solid), a research station and several hiking trailheads is the full extent of civilization at Finse.

I did not mention the Hardangerjøkulen because it seems to be going back much in summer. A study in the 10ers I read once was concluding that this glacier seems not to be able to rebuild ice cap when it disappeared once.

Tip: look in webcam pictures of Finse Alpine Research Center from last summers. During winter the snow (of Star Wars) "empire strikes back" on virtual Hoth ice planet comes back but summer months look more green around.

I already recommended Folgefonna.

Read "Round trip from Bergen to Folgefonna Ski Centre including 5-hour guided tour on the glacier Folgefonna".

More evidence that our glaciers are melting away because of climate change.
There’s a national park in Montana called “Glacier National Park.”

Because of climate change (aka”Global Warming”)
Scientists forecast all the glaciers in the park could melt away during the next 20 years.
So, 20 years from now, if there are no glaciers remaining, the park might be renamed. “.National Park.”

I stayed at the DNT Finse.
They run guide led glacier tours if you want sonething more than just the walk up to the glacier itself
Its also possible to get a local guude for other trips. So say its a hiking hut is underselling it,its beautifull inside.
