Geiranger hotels

We are a family of 3 with 15 year old son. For our trip in August, I have the following options.
Grand Fjord hotel suite 70sqm and have a separate bedroom with a double bed

Hotel Union - must book TWO separate rooms.

Is this normal in Norway? Grand Fjord has only two suites that can accommodate more than 2 people. Hotel Union does not have any room (including suites) that accommodates 3 people. Their family room only allow children under 13.

I am currently thinking of taking the suite at Grand Fjord....

You'll actually find that's common all over Europe. Not always, but there are a lot of hotels that will only allow two adults in one room. You either have to book a triple or a suite, which not all hotels have, or book two rooms.

Last year I traveled by myself, but I had my two older teenage grandkids with me. I had to book a triple room at both of the hotels we stayed at in London and Paris.

How old is your teenage son? There are some hotels that will allow a cot in the room for a child, but there's an age limit on that ( (usually around 15 or 16). If he's older than that, you're going to be stuck either getting two rooms or a suite. Edit: Sorry, I just saw the last line where you said the one hotel only allows children under 13. Yeah, that's lower than many, but again that is relatively common throughout Europe.

Just out of curiosity, have you thought about staying in Alesund instead? Is there a reason you're staying in Geiranger? It's a pretty small place, and if you wanted to see it, you could easily visit from Alesund.

One of the problems your finding is that the many of the rooms have already been booked up. Geiranger is tiny and there are not a lot of options. What are your plans in Geiranger that will fill 2 days?

Have you looked at Havila Hotel Geiranger? They are currently closed for the season, but are accepting online bookings. Their superior rooms have space for a rollaway and allow children up to 15 years old.

Also keep in mind that parking is limited in Geiranger and usually has an extra fee.

Assuming you have a car, you might want to look further away.

This will be my very first time in Norway. I had chatbot come up with 'relaxed' version of itinerary that limits to no more than 3-4 hours per day. I am also staying two nights at Aurland afterward. Do you think it is not worth staying two nights at Geiranger?

I think you need to decide what you will be doing in the Geiranger area to warrant 2 nights. Only you can decide. Similar to Flåm, the town of Geiranger can be overrun by day trippers and cruise ship passengers during the day. You may want to check Cruisemapper to see if there are any big ships in port when you are there.

Are you planning to kayak or take a sightseeing boat on the Geirangerfjord? Are you hikers or walkers? Will you be driving the spectacular Trollstigen? Depending on your route and the stops along the way, the Trollstigen can take a full day.

Without knowing the rest of your itinerary, I hesitate to advise.

We stayed at Hole Hytter. It's not fancy, but the view from the cabin is amazing.

The prices you were quoted are quite high.
