We are still waiting for tickets for our dates in July to open up on the Vy website, but does anyone know when they do if we can purchase online (from U.S.) with a credit card? Or if not, what are the options for advance purchase?
Thank you!

You buy them from www.vy.no but there is no rush to buy them the minute they go on sale. Buying a month in advance is fine.
Vy is notorious for being strict on safe payment and not accepting cards with subpar online safety, but Paypal is an option.
I understand they don't post them until 60 days prior to travel. Norwegians would recommend buying from vy
People here use trainline for ease of purchase.
There is another thread where it has clearly been demonstrated that it is 90 days to the minute before departure time from the train's originating station when tickets are released. The website says both 120 days and 60 days but physical evidence is that Vy have currently split the difference.
The best way to purchase is with Pay Pal due to multi factor authentication. A credit card may well not work, or you may get lucky.
At the vy website it says that Lowfare tickets cannot be combined with any other discounts, but I thought I had read that you get 30% off if you have a Eurail pass. Can anyone clarify? Thanks.
Update! July tickets are available now on VY. We had to use paypal > credit card to pay as would not accept our Visa. But otherwise pretty easy!
Hi, I tried using the Vy website and app today to buy tickets for the third week in July. I'm getting the same message that tickets won't go on sale before 60 days. Were you able to get around the 60 day limit. I'm noticing that on earlier dates, the Oslo to Mydral route is booked up for the 8:00 am trip with the sales window being open for less than 24 hours. I'm nervous about the tickets being sold out. Any insight is greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
We are traveling on July 1 in direction of Flam to Oslo. I can see July 2 tickets are available but not yet July 3 so it looks like tickets are being released 120 days out. There are still plenty for those two dates so hopefully as long as you check within that 120 date window for your dates you’ll be good. As I noted above be prepared to use PayPal if your CC isn’t accepted—as happened to us.
Thank you for your insight. Safe travels!
I just bought tickets yesterday from flam to oslo. I tried using the app but when got to the payment they would not accept a credit card. They sent me to their website where i had to start all over and use paypal. Very frustrating experience.
On the app i could change the assigned seats but online I couldn't find a way to do so. As one would expect the ones i chose on the app were apparently considered taken (?).
I will say though that when I went into the app only 2 or 3 seats were reserved for June 30th.
I understand the the best seats are on the north side. Is that correct?
We were able to buy and select seats for our Flam to Oslo tickets on the website from a computer -- but had to use paypal (vs directly entering a credit card). We did create an account that provides access both through the website or app. I can see our reservations now on the app. The website initially provided seats for Myrdal to Oslo (Flam to Myrdal is unreserved) but there was button to select to change seat selection -- including offering seats in other carriages. So, we were able to change seats before booking on the website as well.
I am curious to know if anyone knows if you can change seats after booking -- and if so how?
We tried to figure out the best side to sit on for the trip FROM MYRDAL TO Oslo before we purchased/selected seats, and concluded from posts we saw that the RIGHT side was what most were recommending. Not sure if this correct though, please advise if not! I would translate right as "south" side of the train (?) -- so seemingly the opposite of what you picked.
