Flam to Oslo - booking the train

We'll be traveling from Flam to Oslo on May 23, 2025. I can book directly with NyVo 90 days in advance. Has anyone encountered sold-out coaches that far in advance? If there's a risk of that, I'd want to book earlier through Rail Ninja. But if there's no real risk I'd rather save the Rail Ninja fees. Thanks.

Do not book with Rail Ninja. There are numerous people on this forum reporting problems with them.

Thank you. Just did that search of the forum, which I should have done before posting my question. I'll be booking direct with the rail line.

The Norwegian National train company, called “Vy”, sells tickets beginning 60 days in advance of the train’s departure date. The website is www.Vy.no/en

It's not possible for a train to sell out before the tickets have gone on sale.

If the company that actually runs the train hasn't released the tickets for sale, then it is not possible to buy tickets for the train. Not matter what Rail Ninja or other try to imply.

When we were planning our September trip, we started booking our trains (Oslo-Myrdal) in Mid July. One of us was over 67 so we both got the senior rate. We booked only cancellable tickets online with Vy, paying with Paypal. We cancelled/changed our tickets a couple of times and never had any problem getting refunded. We waited until Aug 9 to book the Myrdal - Flam train as a separate ticket, still using the Vy website. That was about 44 days out (we traveled on Sep 14). There were plenty of seats available, although we were on the late afternoon train (~5pm) because we were staying overnight in Flam. According to the Vy website, that Myrdal - Flam train ticket was still cancellable/changeable (no senior discount) through their site, although we didn't have to make any changes. Even when we were in Flam, we noted that there were still seats available on some Flam-Myrdal runs last minute, BUT it was much more booked on the day the big cruise ship was in port (we weren't planning to book, just curious if they really sold out.) Morning trains, and some of the other activities were sold out, that morning, but again, big cruise ship in port! This was a mid September weekend, so may or may not be applicable to your timing.
