We will take the roundtrip Flam to Gundvangen ferry in late May. I was wondering if it is also worth taking the Kaupanger to Gundvangen ferry a couple of days later as well? Is there a lot of overlap in the two routes? Thanks.
The overlap of the two is approximately 45-50 minutes from Gudvangen the whole Naeroyfjord. But at different weather and day times the fjord can look very differently.
Looks like there's some overlap if you look at the map here: https://www.visitflam.com/activities/fjord-cruise-sognefjord/ But the duplication is seeing the Nærøyfjord arm of the Sognefjord again and it's apparently the best of them all. If you put these destinations in Google-maps as a 3 legged trip you'll get a good sense of proximity, etc. (We haven't actually done this; only now working on a strategy for next year. Others may chime in with better-informed comments.)
Google Maps is not aware of these ferry connections and also of some others. In general it is not a good planning tool for scenic routes in Norway and for some other countries in Europe, e.g. Germany.
Markk, Thanks for the steering correction. G-maps can only reveal the town locations, but not the ferry routes. Sorry if I caused confusion.
