We are staying 2 nights in Flam next August and thinking of staying at Fretheim Hotel but can't decide whether to book just the room or the Hiking Offer, which includes breakfast and dinner both nights, plus snack on arrival day and bag lunch on 2nd day. The cost difference is very minimal for 4 people, but we're not sure if we want to tie down to the same restaurant for dinner both nights we are there. Fretheim restaurant does pop up with good reviews, but are there other restaurants that are worth trying? Would appreciate any feedback.

I stayed at the Fretheim a few years ago and enjoyed the dinner buffet. It was excellent and worth every penny.
This was before the pandemic so I don't know if they still do that.

We spent 5 nights in Flam last year. Our one meal at the Fretheim Hotel was our best. Their buffet was fresh and high quality, as was the service. The only other meal we had in Flam that was on par was a dinner at the Aegir Brewery. Great beer (main level) and more upscale fare upstairs. However, that is connected to another hotel and they typically don’t take reservations from people who are not guests of the hotel. We got lucky. I recommend you book the hiking offer, especially since the price difference is minimal.
