Hello,
I am traveling with my husband and 2 children (ages 15 and 12) to Norway in August. We plan to spend 2 nights in Aurland (already booked). My plan was to take the train from Oslo, Flamsbana to Flam, pick up a car in Flam and have it for our 2 days in the area, however car rentals are very expensive at around 2000 NOK per day. I don't see how we can do what we want to do without a car, but maybe we could consolidate our plans to one day with a car rental. Here's our plans:
Day 1:
Train from Oslo to Myrdal
Flamsbana from Myrdal to Flam
Zipline/bike/hike Flam Valley
Stay just outside Aurland (it looks like bus/ferry service is limited and our accommodation would be a long walk outside of Aurland!)
Day 2:
Drive to Stegastein viewpoint
Visit Borgund Stave Church
Possible hiking in area
Day 3:
Continue NIN route to Gudvangen
Are there any alternatives for transportation that I'm missing or should we just suck it up and pay the price for 2 days of car rental? Thanks!
