Flam and Tromso accomodations

Can anyone recommend places that they stayed in Flam in Tromso?

Has anyone tried using Airbnb or another homeaway service for places in Norway with success?

We're planning a family trip in early September when the crowds should be slowing down but I know I need to plan ahead.

Thanks

Tromsø

  • 2023: Scandic Ishavshotel was really good; great view from rooms with sound / harbor view
  • 2018: Clarion Hotel The Edge was good

Never stayed in Flåm. Next one was Myrkdalen Hotel - good stay.

We stayed here at Aurland near Flam. I loved the place right on the edge of the fjord's water. We booked last March for September 2023.

We did book an apartment via booking.com near Stavanger.

I stayed in Flam at the kind of "hostel" part of the campground. It wasn't fancy, but was good value for money (for Norway), was clean, and an easy walk to the center of "town." I had a private room, I would bet they have family rooms too. I had my own bathroom in my room.

It also had a communal kitchen and dining area, which I didn't use.

Thanks so much for the info

For those who went up to Tromso, did anyone visit the Ice Domes or participate in any of the Camp Tamok activities?

They look like they have a lot to offer but it's all pretty expensive. I'm just wondering if anyone tried it and thought it was worth the cost.

Thank you

In Flam, I stayed at the Fretheim Hotel. A one minute walk to both the train station and the ferry stop. Excellent dinner buffet.

In Tromsø I visited Fjellheisen (worth doing), visited the place with the Tirpitz plate (largest German battle ship in WWII, sank near Tromsø after bomb attack) and explored the city with my own car and feet.

A wonderful car trip in summer for 1 or 2 days is the island Senja.

“ For those who went up to Tromso, did anyone visit the Ice Domes”

The Ice Domes are only open from mid-December until mid to late April. So they won’t be open in early September, simply because there won’t be any snow and ice yet to build the domes and sculptures.

Did you read the replies you received on your first question about the northern lights? I’m starting to feel you have the wrong idea about what Tromso will look like in early September and what you can see and do. There will be no snow, so no snow activities like dog sledding and driving a snow mobile. Also it doesn’t get completely dark at night, so the chances of seeing the northern light are low.
I’m only saying this so you know what to expect and what not and you won’t be disappointed when you get there.
