Fjord day trips from Bergen

In June we will be taking a Viking cruise that begins in Bergen. We are signed up to do the Oslo 2 night pre-cruise, which includes a scenic train ride to Bergen. Once onboard the ship we have 2 nights in Bergen. I'm wondering if that allows us enough time to do a day trip/boat ride to the Naeroyfijord, and possibly Flam. If so, any specific tour recommendations?

Thanks,
Nancy

Do you have information about what else is included in the 2 night pre-cruise?
The Norway in a Nutshell route goes between Oslo and Bergen and includes a fjord cruise, so those days might be your best bet for fjord viewing.

The 2-night pre-cruise in Oslo is focused on museums and sights in Oslo, then includes the train that goes directly from Oslo to Bergen.

The Norway in a Nutshell company has several different tours and routes - some loop from Bergen. If you click one of the tours on the main page, you can then customize start and end point. https://www.norwaynutshell.com

The direct train Oslo - Bergen (the Bergensbanen) is a standard part of the NiN route. Your trip may or may not include stops at the fjords, but should be clear from your literature - I think we don't know exactly what you are looking at description-wise, so there may be some confusion in our responses. This trip can be done in one long day, even with stops at fjords and waterfalls. People hop off the train and are met by the next transit option. I did the trip last summer without stops - stayed on the Bergen Line train straight through with a handful of others. The full route via fjord and tram railway are more popular than my choice.

Here are two other companies out of Bergen:

Thank you for your kind replies. After doing a bit more research I'm leaning towards cancelling the Viking pre-cruise extension in Oslo and independtly doing the Norway in a Nutshell tour from Oslo to Bergen. If we go with that option, we could still keep our flight into Oslo, see a bit of the city, spend one night there, then have a night to spend on the "nutshell" tour. I'm thinking we could go Oslo to Flam the first day, spend one night in Flam and then continue on the tour. Anyone here spent the night in Flam, or is it better to stay over somewhere else?

Flam probably serves your purposes the best, but accommodations fill quickly. I would book a place first before making other arrangements.

My first choice would be the Nutshell with a stop along the way (Flam, Gudvangen or Voss would be easiest), just so the trip won't be quite so long. My second choice would be the one-day Nutshell trip. Either makes a lot more sense to me than taking the train all the way to Bergen and then doubling back to the Naeroyfjord area. The most scenic components of the Nutshell trip are the Flamsbana train from Myrdal down to Flam and the Naeroyfjord ferry from Flam to Gudvangen, but the train from Oslo to Flam and the bus from Gudvangen up to Voss are also scenic. You can save money by booking the individual components yourself.

We decided to cancel the Oslo pre-cruise altogether and instead booked a couple of extra nights in Bergen. The flights work out better for us, and we can do Norway in a Nutshell round-trip from Bergen without having to worry about dragging around our luggage. The nice bonus is having the cruise transfers from airport to hotel and then to cruise dock. Win-win!
