Extra day after BEST OF SCANDINAVIA tour

We will be on the Rick Steves Best of Scandinavia tour in July and have an extra day in Bergen. I had hoped to see Troldhaugen - the home of Edvard Grieg - but was disappointed to learn it is closed this summer for renovation.
We only have ONE Day - for those who have been on this tour, what would you recommend for that day that was not on the tour? We are considering the Norway in a Nutshell Bergen roundtrip, which includes Nærøyfjord Cruise and the Flam railway - will this be in a different area NOT covered on the tour? (I know about the cruise being on a different fjord than the tour, but wondering if we will just be on a train on the same path that the bus takes?)

Flam is interesting to see, but in my opinion, to go all the way from Bergen to Flam and back would be a waste of time. It will take about 6 hours or more round trip on a bus and train on the NIN. I have not been on this RS tour, but I am sure the fjord the tour includes will be very scenic. Spending an extra day in Bergen shouldn't be too hard to enjoy. Some deep research of things to do in Bergen will certainly fill one extra day.

I agree with the above, the fjord tour we experienced on the tour itself is very scenic and enjoyable. We actually had o spend an extra day in Bergen because of out of our control flight cancellations and found much to occupy us. I'm sorry the Grieg house is under renovation. This tour is in my top 5 favorite RS tours!

I did the NiN one-way from Bergen to Oslo after the RS tour, but I was flying out of Oslo.
I enjoyed it, especially the bus part and the Flåmsbana train, which are not part of the tour, but it looks like you are flying out of Bergen.
