E16 is closed between Flam and Voss

Landslides have closed the road, and it could be closed for some time. We cancelled our Flam train tickets for next week and will take a different route.

It appears from the ViaMichelin website that the problem affects a considerable segment of the road between Gudvangen and Voss, which is an essential component of the classic Norway-in-a-Nutshell route, a very popular public-transportation excursion. The bus from Gudvangen to Voss is one of the segments of the trip. If a visitor has enough time (and hotel reservations locked down), a workaround would be to include the Flamsbana train and the Flam-Gudvangen (Naeroyfjord) ferry, but make the latter a round-trip, then use the express boat begin Flam and Bergen. The express boat runs only once or twice a day, so I think this would require a night (or an extra night) spent in the fjord area. I suppose it would be prudent to be sure the road blockage hasn't resulted in a reduction of the frequency of the Flamsbana and/or the Naeroyfjord ferry.

With enough time, there's probably a workaround for drivers, too, but I am not familiar with driving routes in that area.

The travel season in that area is pretty short, I think, so this must be painful for the innkeepers.

We are leaving Bergen now, heading to Aurland driving. I will update with any details. Can't find much in the news or online.

Just looked on the Vy trains website and currently nothing on there about the Flamsbana being affected. I am not sure why it would result in a reduction in frequency on that line.
The Flamsbana is public transportation, not a tourist train, albeit mainly filled with tourists. But it is also transportation for people who live in the valley, so if not affected by problems still has a duty to run.
There probably are not spare ships available, but perhaps the Flam to Gudvangen might get extra service.

I know someone going down the Flamsbana (coming from Oslo) on Thursday so am watching this.

Thankfully they then continue on to Skjerjehamn on the express boat for overnight then Bergen by express boat.

We are able to keep our hotel at Aurland, but the potential detour after our train to get to our next lodging in Granvin didn't work with our afternoon train tickets. It could be open by the time we are there, but our reservation said to cancel 7 days in advance for a refund. Check vegvesen.no for current info.

I don't think extra ferries between Flam and Gudvangen would necessarily help. The line blockage seems to be between Gudvangen and Voss, according to ViaMichelin.

Please note that the end time is uncertain and subject to change.
Detour: Rv13 Vikafjellet, west/east: Rv7 Hardangervidda or E134 Haukelifjell

The landslide is between Gudvangen and Stalheim, so bus 950 will not be running for those who are planning the NiN.

I suppose it would be prudent to be sure the road blockage hasn't
resulted in a reduction of the frequency of the Flamsbana and/or the
Naeroyfjord ferry.

The landslide has blocked the road. The railways run in other valleys so are not affected.

We are leaving Bergen now, heading to Aurland driving.

In that case you need to take a different route. Road 13 would be my suggestion.

Can't find much in the news or online.

While the recent elections are a bigger story, the issue is certainly not ignored by the media.

Not that I've read, but Vagnsnes-Hella will see extra departures. Flåm to Gudvangen is just a tourist route. Although it is currently use as a regular route since the tunnel between Flåm and Gudvangen is closed.

We are able to keep our hotel at Aurland, but the potential detour
after our train to get to our next lodging in Granvin didn't work with
our afternoon train tickets.

How are you planning to travel from Aurland to Granvin? If by train to Voss, then there is nothing to worry about, that route runs as normal.
