We will be returning to Norway but staying in Oslo for four days. Have already visited fjords and west coast. Looking for day trips from Oslo. We do not want to rent a car, so hoping for something accessible by bus or train.
Have you already visited Oslo? Bygdøy Peninsula with the outdoor Folk museum, Fram and Kon Tiki museums and more.
Drøbak, by bus or ferry to coastal town with old wooden houses and a fortress.
Lillehammer with Olympic ski jump and open air museum.
We took the train from Oslo to Fredrikstad for a day trip 2 years ago. The old town area is an easy walk from the train station is very interesting. The town (new and old) is on the water and really beautiful. We're going back to Norway in September and will take the train to Tønsberg this time.
Thank you for the suggestions! We have visited Oslo before and will spend some time in the city, exploring some new sights. We are meeting family at the end of the week in southern Norway (Kristiansand area), so we will have some free time before meeting them. We were thinking of Drobak, so will look into visiting. Have already visited Fredrikstad and loved it!
The Henie Onstad Art Center in Hovikodden, just outside Oslo, has a good collection of modern and contemporary art. It's accessible by bus.
