Cruising from Tromso to Bergen Vs. Norway in a Nutshell

We will be taking a Viking cruise through the fjords that includes Narvik, Tromso, Alta to Bergen in March. Is Norway in a Nutshell still recommended or are we covering the highlights of fjords on the cruise? We have somewhat limited time in Norway.

It's apples and oranges. We took the Hurtigruten Coastal ferry along the West Coast. The fjords along the coast are wider with more open views. The original Norway in a Nutshell takes you through the Naeyorfjord and Aurlandsfjord. The Naeyorfjord is much more dramatic since it's narrower and surrounded by steep mountains.

If you're looking for the iconic Norway fjord view seen from above in Viking Cruise commercials you need to get to a viewpoint above the Geirangerfjord or the Naeyorfjord.

Thank you for the clarification. We’ll have to squeeze it in. Much appreciated.

Margaret, if you do the Nutshell, try to include the minibus tour to Stegastein Viewpoint. If the weather is nice, you'll get the beautiful views overlooking the fjord. It's an excellent complement to the cruise of the fjords between Gudvangen and Flåm.

Also, if you do the Nutshell one way from Bergen to Oslo, you can use Porter Service to send your bags to your hotel in Oslo. We used them in 2023 and it worked perfectly. We overnighted in Flåm carrying only a small backpack.

Thank you for the info of the mini-bus tour and porter service. We are doing the same with one night in Flam.
