If the weather is clear, the Loen Skylift is a great choice at Olden. You don’t need to book the pricey excursion through the cruise ship. You actually don’t need to book this in advance. There will be several booths selling tickets with transfers right on the dock. The advantage here is that you get a chance to check the weather prior to purchase. Lots of paths at the top of the Skylift or you can just enjoy from the restaurant.

We actually just got back from a cruise to the Norwegian fjords, and our favorite thing was hiking to the Briksdal Glacier in Olden. The views are absolutely spectacular! We used the same company mentioned above - Olden Adventure. We bought their tickets for the Briksdal Glacier Shuttle Bus online before we left for the cruise because I was worried they could sell out. They have a tent right on the pier next to where the cruise ship docks and we checked in there and then hopped on the bus at our scheduled time. The bus ride is about 45 mintues each way. On the way to the glacier it has some informative (and often funny) commentary about what you are passing, along with some Norwegian history. The bus ride itself offers fantastic scenery as well. Watch for the baby lambs!
Have a wonderful cruise!!
Does this mean olden adventure?Does not pick you up right at the cruise port?
Yes, the link I posted takes you to Olden Adventures webpage. They do pick you up at the port.
We have had good results and generally cheaper prices from this company instead of the ship's excursions.

Not sure what ports you visit, but Geirangerfjord was our favorite. Alesund and Flam are great as well.
Norway in a Nutshell was good.

In Molde, we took a BEAUTIFUL hike up to Varden (the "Molde Panorama" view) and continued NE to across a variety of trails to the Skihytta (sp) and then back down to the town again. A bit over 8 miles, 1/4 going up, a 1/4 coming down and half sort of meandering up and down. Very beautiful. And all "just wandering" and following trail signs.
In Olden, yes, the Briksdal glacier hike was worth it. Busy (much less so than Pulpit Rock, though) and relatively easy, and a pretty view at the end (turnaround) and we even had some woman in front of us quick disrobe unveiling her swimsuit for a quick swim in the very chilly water. I think we picked up the bus at the Circle K just down the road from the pier, and since we were the second to line up, we got great seats at the top front of the bus, and that was FUN for the trip to the trailhead. Seeing the bus navigate the smallish roads - with oncoming traffic and other buses - was an adventure on its own.
We were there in late July/early August. Great temps. Really nice weather in general.
