We are taking a Celebrity Cruise to Norway Fjiords. We arrive in Geiranger Norway at 11:00 AM local and I am trying to get off the ship and onto a boat trip up the fjord at noon. Does anyone have experience with this? Do I have enough time to get from a moored cruise ship to land and then to where the fijord excursion boats leave from? Thanks
We did this cruise in late May from Dublin. In Geiranger where you will dock is at the absolute end of the fjord. We did the hop on/off bus and saw pretty much all there was to see (in predominately rain). There is a small dock not far from where the Celebrity ship will dock, maybe a 15 minute walk at most. If there is a excursion boat from there it will retrace the way you sailed into, and also then will leave Geiranger. Probably another cruise ship there also that will tender their passengers to shore - which takes considerably longer. Celebrity docked at the Seawalk, much more convenient.
Not sure where/when/what ship you are cruising from, so my trip may not be relevant to your needs. .
Cruise ship will drive through the same fjord as the boat tours. Maybe get an e-car and have a look onto the fjord from Dalsnibba (very high mountain), Flydalsjuvet or from Ornesvingen.
Geiranger is very small, so it is only a short walk from where tenders arrive to boats.
Tip: there is also a ferry between Geiranger and Hellesyslt which drives down the whole fjord. In Hellesylt there is the nice flowing waterfall Hellesyltfossen only 100 metres from the point the ferry arrives. Ferry provides comments in English.
